Split.

After being inexplicably targeted by an evil intent on harming her at any cost, seventeen-year-old Nikki finds herself under the watchful guardianship of three mysterious young men who call themselves halflings. Sworn to defend her, misfits Mace, Raven, and Vine battle to keep Nikki safe while hiding their deepest secret---and the wings that come with.

A growing attraction between Nikki and two of her protectors presents a whole other danger. While she risks a broken heart, Mace and Raven could lose everything, including their souls. As the mysteries behind the boys' powers, as well as her role in a scientist's dark plan, unfold, Nikki is faced with choices that will affect the future of an entire race of heavenly beings, as well as the precarious equilibrium of the earthly world.

Review: This book wasn't what I was originally thinking it would be. But besides that I enjoyed it! It starts out with Nikki being chased by Hell Hounds when she was drawing in the forest, and the Halflings (Raven, Mace & Vine) finding her and fighting them off of her. They then find out they have to protect her, from what, no one knows. Lol. Just for the record, I'd love to have three half-angel, hot guys protecting me. Wouldn't that be awesome? Anyways... Nikki keeps getting attacked, or close to getting attacked and the Halflings cant figure out just why she's the target. All they know is that they have to protect her and in some way she's helping them as well. I liked the whole mystery behind why Nikki is the target. It kept you on your feet and everytime you think your about to figure out why it's taken right out from under explaining something else and leaving you wondering WHY IS SHE THE TARGET?!?!?! And the end... I felt so bad for Nikki at the end, not knowing what happened to her parents. That would freak me out and leave me really upset.

So this is where it kind gets a little positive and negative. Obviously Nikki starts falling for 2 of her protectors and they kind of fall for her. But their not allowed to fall for humans so they try so hard to hide their feelings (even though it doesnt really work). I really kind of liked the whole halfling falling for a human even though its forbidden thing but sometimes I felt like it took up too much of the story. I felt like we could have learned a little more about the Halflings personally or maybe a little more about why Nikki is being targeted with all the time devoted to the love story aspect of it. But overall I enjoyed the book and I'll probably pick up the next one.

4 Stars!

  1. I have been intrigued by this book for awhile...while I'm not a huge fan of love triangles the concept of halflings intrigues me. Great review!

  2. This story sounds great! And one of the guy's called Raven, which is a plus point in my book...

I'm going to be honest, so please don't laugh: I think I won't pick up this book because I can't think of the word "halfling" without a mental picture of Frodo (or someone like him) coming up.

Which would hinder the romance element, like, a lot. And might make the fight scenes kind of... comic. I think.

Still, thanks for the review! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
