Book Blogger Hop: March 16th-22nd

Question:

Who is your favorite children's books author and why? (submitted by Kitty @ Vicarious Bookworm)

Answer:

For younger kids, Joanna Cole. She wrote a bunch of The Magic School Bus books. My daughter loves them and I love the books too. For older kids. Ann M. Martin. I'm sure most people recognize that name. The Babysitters Club. I loved those books when I was a kid! I was always checking them out from the library at school to read them.

Question:

Do you enjoy reading retellings of, or 'sequels' to, classic novels? Why or why not? (submitted by Maria @ A Night's Dream of Books)

Answer:

Retellings, yes, sometimes. It really depends on the story. Some retellings I really love, others are just complete misses with me. It honestly just depends on the story and how its written. Sequels, I'm not too into sequels of classics. I'm not sure why.

Off the book topic...do you use a mouse pad? If so, what is on it? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

Answer:

I don't. Mainly cuz I use my laptop and the mouse I do have for it generally works on most surfaces without issue. My fiance uses one though for his desktop computer. His has a tiger on it. It was just random mouse pad he found. If he could actually go pick one out though, he'd definitely pick one with a shark (he LOVES sharks).

Do you read hardcovers with the dust jacket on or off? Why or why not? (submitted by Maria @ A Night's Dream of Books)

Answer:

On. Reason number 1 being that I just always have. Lol. Reason number 2 being that I have a toddler who likes to take things and color on them or hide them in her room. I think the dust jackets are safer just staying on the book while I read them. Lol.

Have you ever found yourself acting like a favorite character in a novel? If so, which one? (submitted by Maria @ A Night's Dream of Books)

Answer:

As of late, yes. But I can't specifically pinpoint just one. So many of my favorite characters have to step up and adult and do things they aren't keen on or don't like doing. And that's exactly what I've been doing lately. A lot of stuff I'm not a huge fan of doing. Lol. Adulting isn't all that great. Lol.

Answer:

A fair amount. All at the Tucson Festival of Books. I'll post pictures.

2013 - I met Maggie Stiefvater, Gayle Forman, & Elizabeth Eulberg! I'm standing between Maggie and Gayle and my friend Kylee is between Gayle and Elizabeth.

2013 Also - Tamara Ireland Stone. She took extra time to talk to us after her panel. So cool!

2014 - Suzanne Young! I was so excited to finally meet her! She lives in AZ like me and is always doing signings in Tempe but I never get the chance to go up there. So I was excited she was in Tucson!!!

2014 - Aprilynne Pike!

2014 - Ilsa J. Bick!

2014 - Page Morgan!

I actually also met Deborah Harkness & Jessica Khoury in 2015, but don't have a picture. This was the year I went more for my mother in law since she wanted to see a bunch of people. :)

I have some authors I want to see at this years festival. I'm hoping hard I get the time to go. This years lineup includes Veronica Roth, Gloria Chao, Kristen Simmons, Victoria Aveyard, Holly Black, Cinda Williams Chima, Melissa Marr & Zoraida Cordova! The YA lineup hasn't been this strong since 2013/2014!!

Q. What hyped up book do you think was not worth all the talk?

Fifty Shades Of Grey. It definitely fell flat for me. It was lets say interesting, but fell flat. I know I'm not the only one out there that thinks that either.

Oh man. I've written some really good reviews over the past month. And I loved each of them. My fave out of them all would have to be my review of Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick! I not only had fun writing that review but with all the emotions that book brought out of me I definitely feel like I gave it a good and thorough review.

Q. If you could have dinner with your favorite book character, who would you eat with and what would you serve?

I would have dinner with Cassie & Adam from The Secret Circle and I'd serve Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. Yum!

Q. What is your favorite Halloween costume? Even if you don't celebrate, what kinds of costumes do you like?

My favorite costume is a witch costume. I'm a sucker for witch costumes. I dont know how many years I went as a witch. Lol. This year I've changed it up a little though. I'm going as a fallen angel! Yay! I'm excited for that.

Well. Just so everyone knows I frequent more than these 5 and you can find some of those down the side of my blog but anyways. On to the 5...

Alison at Alison Can Read - I just love Alisons blog. I mean seriously, if you haven't checked it out already you definitely should. Her blog is definitely one of my favorites. :)

Jen @ Almost Grown-Up - I came upon Jen's blog like a month or so ago I think during FF and its definitely become one I like to check out every week.

April @ Books4Juliet - I love April's blog. I may not comment half as much as I should on her posts because she has a lot of awesome ones, but I still check it out multiple times a week and read her posts. Not to mention she just recently started the TBR Intervention Challenge (Shes co-hosting with Dani@RefractedLight & Anayami@Whatever You Can Still Betray) and boy is it a good one. I might actually be able to tame my TBR pile with the help of the challenge. :)

Sam @ Books For All Seasons - So I actually came upon this blog when Sam followed me on Twitter. I definitely like checking it out every week now. First of all, Sam features some really cool books I never would have even heard of before if it wasn't for checking out the blog. Second of all, Review of Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen. You must check it out! Sam's review actually made me bump it up on my TBR list. :)

Courtney @ Fuzzy.Coffee.Books - Have you seen her blog? Its pretty. Second, she writes amazing reviews! I love reading her reviews, especially on books I've read. I love hearing her thoughts about them and I can definitely agree with some of the things she says in her reviews.

Q. If you could have characters from a particular book meet and form an epic storyline with characters from a particular TV series, which would you choose and why?

The cast of NCIS: LA and The Gallagher Girls! - How freaking awesome would it be to see Callen, Kensi, Sam & Deeks working with Cammie, Macey, Liz & Bex??? I'd love that. That'd be so epic!

*Just so everyone knows, besides my fave tv shows that are based on books(TVD & TSC) I absolutely love my Crime shows like NCIS:LA & NCIS*

Q. What is your favorite spooky book (i.e. mystery/suspense, thriller, ghost story, etc.)?

Um.. Well. I really wouldn't consider this a spooky book but this is the only one I can think of right of the top of my head. Falling Under by Gwen Hayes. It definitely had some mystery in it with the whole Haden thing and near the end it started to get intense and kinda darker than the rest of the book.

Q. Show & Tell: Where do you grab a book and get lost in it? Show us your favorite spot you like to read at.

I tend to lay or sit on my bed and read. Idk, maybe its because all my books are close by in my room or just because I find my bed comfy but I love just laying on my bed and reading a book. Not to mention when it's cold outside I have access to my very warm comforter.

Yes that is a bookshelf behind my pillows. My headboard came built in with it so I'm taking full advantage of it. :)

Q. If you could pick one character in a book, movie, or television show to swap places with, who would it be?

Um... This one is a hard one. I think I'd have to choose Cassie from The Secret Circle (yes i know, technically she is a character from the books and the tv show now). She's a witch first of all. How cool would it be to be a witch??? I'd love to learn spells and everything that comes along with witchcraft. It just sounds so interesting doesn't it? Also, she gets to be around Adam. Who wouldn't want to be around that sexy man?!? I mean come on. He's hot! Whether you see him in the tv show or just read about him in the books either way he's hot. Lol.

Q. It's time to spread the love beyond the borders of the Book Blogger Hop! This week, we aren't answering a question. We are spotlighting our fellow bloggers. Find your favorite(s) author interview(s), guest post(s), book review(s), or bookish article(s) that ANOTHER BOOK BLOGGER featured on their site recently and tell us why you love it/them! As an additional challenge, find your favorite one of EACH of the categories above and spotlight all 4 (interview, guest post, book review, article).

Now, before you guys see who and what I chose I have to tell you it was so hard choosing. If it was up to me I'd spotlight a lot of you. But I'm trying not to have my list go on and on so I decided to choose three different bloggers and their posts.

Review of Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor By Rochelle @ Books Like Stars: Her review of this book has solidified my wanting to read this. I've been hearing such good things about this but I honestly wasn't sure if I should read it or not. I read her review of it and finally decided to though. Her love for the book just showed through so much in her review and how she describes it made me finally decide to read it. :)
Sash & Em: Ok, I cant honestly pick just one of their many amazing posts. I love their blog in general. They give such good reviews & host awesome giveaways. I've loved their blog since I started blogging really. :)
Author Interview: J.D. Thompson by Karla @ Karla Reads: So I haven't really read many interviews lately but this one interested me. The questions had really great answers and even though I haven't read the book that the interview was based on a few answers actually made me wanna read it. I also like getting to know something you didn't know about an author through interviews and this one didn't disappoint. I definitely learned something I didn't know. :)

This is my first week doing TGIF.

Q. To-Be-Read's: How big is your pile? Which book keeps getting pushed down the stack, but you keep meaning to read it?

Well. My TBR pile is pretty big. I have around 40 books that I own in my TBR, not to mention the close to like 100 or so more that i dont have or havent come out yet on my goodreads TBR. Lol. And the thing is its only getting longer. I have an addiction to buying books. And every week I add more and more books to my TBR list. It just keeps getting longer. Lol.

I try to read new releases and library books first. After that its generally on a what I feel like reading basis.

Lets see... The books that keep getting pushed down my list are Firelight by Sophie Jordan, Paranormalcy by Kiersten White, The Leviathan series by Scott Westerfeld and The ENTIRE Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. I swear I keep meaning to get to them but I keep getting more and more books. Lol.

Q. What book that hasn't been turned into a movie (yet) would you most like to see make it to the big screen, and who would you cast as your favorite character?

I would make the Uglies Trilogy into movies. I think that would be pretty awesome. I think I would cast Nina Dobrev as Tally but I'm kinda all over on who would play David, Shay and Dr. Cable. I had a really great idea for who could play Dr. Cable but I totally cant remember it now. I really wanna see more Dystopian novels made into movies.

I also would love to see Divergent & The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer made into movies. Those are such amazing books. I have no idea who I'd choose to play them though.

Q. In honor of Banned Books Week, what is your favorite "banned or frequently challenged book"?

Mine is from the 2010-2011 list. Betrayed by P.C. & Kristen Cast. Its the second book in the House of Night series and one of my faves of the series. It was one of the few in the series I literally couldn't put down once I started reading it.

Q. Do you have a favorite series that you read over and over again? Tell us a bit about it and why you keep on revisiting it?

One of my fave series is the Uglies Trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. I don't know what it is about those books but I love rereading them. I love the world Scott created in that series. I love the things they have to fight and overcome throughout the series. I also love how most of the characters grew too, not just a few. I'm also a big fan of dystopians so that another reason I keep reading them too.

I haven't reread this yet because I just read it for the first time and finished it today but also Divergent by Veronica Roth. I can tell I'm going to be rereading it a lot until the next book comes out and even after. And again, it goes along with my dystopian theme. Lol.

Q. As a blog reader, what information (besides the book review) do you like to see in other bloggers' reviews of books? (For example - Author bio, social media links, book synopsis from Amazon/Goodreads or one written by the blogger, page count, ISBN number, link to purchase, etc.)

I like to see a synopsis of the book, whether the blogger writes it or if its from amazon or goodreads. A synopsis in a review really helps the reader get the idea of the book, especially if they haven't read it before. I feel like the synopsis being there helps the reader understand just that much more some of the things you write in your review pertaining to the books. I also like to see links to purchase the books, yes I know, I don't currently do it myself but that's because I've been more focused on reading and writing my posts. Once I get caught up on reviews and reading then I'll go back and add links. It doesn't really bother me if there's social media links or not because I personally am following many authors on Twitter already and a number of author blogs.

Follow Friday [#5]

Q. It's that pesky magic book fairy again! She has another wish: What imaginary book world would you like to make a reality?

I'd like to make the Faery world from Wicked Lovely a reality, without the wars between courts of course. It would be kind of fun to just frolic in the faery courts dancing and whatnot a lot of the time. It'd be a nice break from reality wouldn't it?

I also think it'd be cool if the wolf world from Nightshade were a reality. Well, without the strict rules. If the rules were a little more laid back it'd be cool to have that world as a reality.

Q. As a book blogger, how do you introduce yourself in your profile?

Well. I start off with introducing myself and writing a bit about me. I think its important that people kind of get a sense of the person behind the blog personally and not just book related. I think its important for people to at least get to know the basics about that person. You know, where you live (US/UK etc), maybe your job if you like sharing that or if you don't have a job what you'd like to study in college etc. That's what I have on mine. I also like to let them know some of my fave things. You never know if you'll make a new blogger friend whose interested in the same things as you besides books. I also like to share a few fun facts because it just lets you know a few random but fun things about the person behind the blog. Like on mine. I have my fave colors, and if you read what they are then you realize why I chose the color orange for my blog. Lol.
